Fiona is a Medical Oncology Consultant at The Christie in Manchester and Hononary Professor at the University of Manchester. She works within the Experimental Cancer Medicines Team (ECMT).
She is Cell Therapy Team leader and Programme Director for the Innovate Manchester Advanced Therapy Centre Hub (iMATCH). iMATCH was awarded almost £7 million by Innovate UK to ensure that more patients benefit from a new generation of advanced cell therapies.
Fiona has an active clinical trials research portfolio in early phase clinical trials exploring adult solid tumours. She has a particular focus on immune oncology, in particular adoptive cell therapies, combination immunotherapies and immune biomarkers. Among Fiona’s research is how the immune system can be harnessed against cancer, using adoptive cell transfer of T-cells activated against cancer antigens.
Fiona was the clinical lead on the pilot study Continuous Signs Monitoring in Covid-19 patients (COSMIC19) which aimed to identify in advance patients who will deteriorate and predict those needed intensive care.
